The company produces all of its products by using Modern Machineries with Modern Technology. The company purchased new machineries coupled with rehabilitation of plant and machineries. Packaging which is an important criteria for export market, was given due importance. The promoters till to date has invested more than $ 2,000,000.00/- by way of rehabilitation of Office and Factory Buildings, Plant & Machineries, Vehicles and purchase of New Machineries from Malaysia, South Africa and India and new vehicles from Tanzania and Dubai.

The Company started with an initial Turnover of Tshs: 60 million per month, whereas now the Turnover is more than Tshs: 900 millions per month. The company started packing Tea & Coffee with 10 tons per month and now it is more than 180 tons per month. The company’s market share in Tea started with 5% and now it has captured more than 50% of the market share. Our Instant Coffee stood at No. 1 position in the Market and captured more than 90% of the Market share.

The Company was also awarded First Prize for the 4 consecutive years in Saba Saba International Trade Fair for “FOOD PROCESSING & PACKAGING”.

The Company was also awarded First Prize in AFRICA INDUSTRIALIZATION DAY AWARD 2007 in the food processing category.

In the packaging aspect, we have improved and controlled our packaging processes by:

  1. Having printed inner liners
  2. Printed cellophane sheets to cover packets
  3. Production record in batches to identify fake packets.
  4. Date of manufacturing, batch number and date of expiry
  5. All information is computerized.
  6. Each packet bears a number and the same will not repeat again.

Established in 1963 as Brookebond Tanganyika Ltd, managed by London based Brookebond group of companies until when it changed ownership to Tanzania Tea Blenders Ltd run by the Government through Tanzania Tea Authority (T.T.A).

In September 2002, the Government sold it to a private company which later changed its name to TANZANIA TEA BLENDERS (2002) LTD.

For 44 years, the company has fulfilled the shopping needs of families throughout Tanzania and the world with freshness, quality, variety and value in the Tea & Coffee product range.

Tanzania Tea Blenders (2002) employs 156 people.

Getting regular supplies from Lupembe Tea Estate in Njombe, Iringa region, where the finest high quality clonel tea is grown, and The Mponde Tea Factory in Lushoto, Tanga region, where the best teas of the different climatic conditions get the perfect blend.

MD of the company takes personal care of the blend and quality of Tea & Coffee by Testing himself.

Africafe coffee is made from high quality Arabica and robusta coffee beans that gives good, acceptable and satisfying Aroma and liquor strength. Africafe is a spray dried 100% pure instant coffee powder with no additives.

The exceptional quality and genuine purity of Africafe make this an internationally acclaimed instant coffee. Africafe is the only packed instant coffee exported to Japan market from East Africa, that is why we can claim Africafe to be Africa’s Finest Coffee.

The company has an IMO certificate for Processing & Marketing of Organic products.

Tanzania Tea Blenders (2002) Ltd application for I.S.O certification is in process and in the final stage.

The major activities of the company are:

  1. Blending and packing of teas.
  2. Packing instant coffee powder.
  3. Roasting, grinding and packing pure coffee.
  4. Marketing and selling company's products.

The Factory has a capacity of more than 3000MT per annum for tea. Equally the production capacity for the Instant Coffee powder is more than 300MT per year while that of Roasted Coffee & ground coffee is more than 750 MT per year.

Tanzania Tea Blenders (2002) Ltd range of products is certified by M/s Tanzania Bureau of Standards, so it is correct to assert that our products meet International Quality Standards. We have also been awarded in 2002 the “Arch of Europe” award in Frankfurt, Germany for our High Quality Products.

Tanzania Tea Blenders (2002) Ltd has a strong distribution system. It covers the whole country with its wide fleet of Trucks, Three wheelers & two wheelers.

Manpower Position

As of last year our manpower position has been as follows.

Males (89) + Females (34) = (Total) 123

These are however permanent and pensionable employees. On and off and depending on the workload we employ for very short durations casual employees.

The highest figure we have so far reached on one day was as follows:

Males (85) + Females (55) = (Total) 140

Efforts taken to improve employees welfare

We are continually taking the following efforts aimed at improving employees welfare:

Periodical medical examination
Paying attractive salaries on due dates
Paying allowances such as medical, meal, traveling etc.
Insuring employees against personal accidents
Registering employees to pension bodies such as NSSF and PPF.

Unemployment Problem

Tanzania Tea Blenders (2002) Ltd is effectively participating in the reduction of the unemployment problem. When the company was taken over by M/s Lushoto Tea Company, there were about 100 employees. Taking into account the employment figures we have given, it is clear that a lot of efforts have been exerted to minimize the unemployment problem. The company is contributing directly and indirectly to reduce the unemployment problem. The company is also able to provide self-employment to the workers.
